This series of heavily underexposed raw photographs are the result of Leigh’s wanderings through her local surroundings during the Winter in Gent, Belgium 2015. Triggered by an intense experience of isolation, melancholy and nostalgia shortly after moving to this foreign country, Leigh began an obsessive act of walking and photographing, in a desperate attempt to find a glimpse of hope in the darkness and cold that surrounded her. Leigh retreated to the depths of her imagination, writing letters to Alice, asking where she went, yet also felt as if she were Alice herself, continually searching. The photographs depict fragments of nature and found objects, such as wild mushrooms, leaves and discarded red shoes.
